From the Desk of your Post Commander:

To my distinguished Legionnaires and Legion Family in the Auxiliary Unit, Sons
of the American Legion and Riders, it is with great honor that I address you in
our new website for Membership Year 2026 as your Commander of the
Department of Maryland American Legion Clinton Post 259. As I have
mentioned before I am committed to serving you and veterans in and around
our community and fostering, and welcoming an inclusive environment for all
members. I encourage you to join us in our mission to make a positive impact
on the lives of those around us.

Our Post will continue to support and advocate for veteran’s rights and
benefits. As a good friend, and a member of our Post always told me over the
years “all who serve deserve their veteran’s benefits”.
We will also continue with our local community engagement with our events
and reaching out and partnering with local organizations to support community
events as we did a month ago with National Night Out.
I am also excited as we continue to support our youth programs as we sponsor
such programs as Boys State and Girls State providing financial support to
those youths who are eager to learn about how governments operate. I share
our American Legion Baseball Chair's enthusiasm for our American Legion
Baseball Team. We will also have another Oratorical Contest as the same
team that worked on that contest last year has agreed to work on it again and
we appreciate their efforts to again have this very important contest.
We will also continue to assist some students with college scholarships, which
is what organizations like ours do to promote and support higher education.
With respect to membership, we will again need all of our member’s support to
retain and recruit new members.

As your former 2 year First Vice Commander
and Membership Chair, I will work very closely with the new First Vice
commander and Membership Chair Cynthia Carlisle and our wonderful
Membership Team as we continue to maintain and grow our membership. Our
2025-2026 membership Goal is 1,254 up 50 members from our 2024-2025
Membership Goal of 1,204. Clinton Post 259 is the second largest American
Legion Post membership wise in the Department of Maryland behind Frances
Scott Key Post 11 in Frederick, Maryland, which has 1,575 members.
We are off to a good start with our membership numbers so far, however, we
have a long way to go as our retention of 2025 is slightly below 50%. We want
to keep all of our members and leave no member behind. If you have not
renewed, please do so as soon as you can and please continue to check on
members with buddy check calls. Just touching base to say hello and see how
they are doing.

I thank you again for your support and trust in electing me as your Post
Commander. I ask for your continued support as we move forward in support
of the American Legion Four Pillars, Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation,
National Security, Americanism, and Children and Youth and any other
programs or efforts we have to assist the Post and any of our community
events.
